What Is The Best Online Poker Site In 2019? – Party Poker Review

A while ago, I talked about online poker rooms in general from a beginner´s perspective. You might still be wondering what is the best online poker site to play on. To help you choose an online poker room for making money, today I´m going to do my first poker room review! This is a poker room I have personal experience with; I have played on Party Poker for a few years now.

First, I´m going to introduce Party Poker in general; what kind of poker room it is. Next, I´m going to discuss the software, the technical performance and appearance. I will talk about the poker game and tournament selection on Party Poker as well. The cashback program will also be covered. Last but not least, I will give my rating on the different aspects of Party Poker!

Party Poker Is One Of The Largest Online Poker Rooms

Party Poker is a well-known poker room owned by GVC group, a large international gaming and betting group. Party Poker runs in it´s own independent poker network and has a gambling license in Gibraltar. Being one of the largest poker rooms in the world and having a reliable license, Party Poker is a safe poker room to play on.

Party Poker has a good selection of deposit and withdrawal methods available including credit card, bank transfer, Skrill, Neteller and Paysafe card.

The Software And Appearance

Over the years Party Poker has had many updates. When I started playing there, the software had a white color. I kind of liked that, since it was different from the dark appearance of many poker rooms. I also find it easier to read dark and colorful text on a white background.

Later, there was an update that made Party Poker as dark-looking as many other poker rooms. I was not a fan of that look, but luckily now Party Poker has chosen a nice look in between the dark and all white. The lobby has some dark color too, but the most important thing is that the tournament schedule has a white background, so it is easy to read in my opinion.

I find the new update of the Party Poker software ADD-friendly. The different types of tournaments have different colors on the tournament schedule. There is a filter, so you can filter what kind of tournaments you want to see. The lobby is simple enough to navigate.

When you are playing on tournaments, you can see how many big blinds each player has just by clicking any player´s stack. As a minus considering players with ADD, the buttons on Party Poker are really sensitive in my opinion, so it is easy to misclick. I took a print screen of the tournament lobby so you can see what it looks like.

In the past, Party Poker software had some technical issues. Being often disconnected when playing tournaments was frustrating. Luckily the updates have improved the Party Poker software technically. Lately I have n´t experienced disconnections while playing on Party Poker, which is great.

The Poker Game Selection

Party Poker has a wide selection of poker games available. They have different poker varieties available, including NL Hold´Em, Pot Limit Omaha, Pot Limit Hold´Em, Fixed Limit Hold´Em and Fixed Limit 7 Card Stud. There are cash games, sit and gos and tournaments with a variety of buy-in levels.

They also have special kind of cash games called fastforward. In fastforward cash games you are moved to a new table as soon as you fold a hand, so you get non-stop action. I´m not a fan of these games personally, but I´m not a fan of cash games anyway. Fastforward poker might be fun for players who don´t like waiting for cards at the table, when they have folded their hand, because in fastforward you get to play a new hand immediately.

On Party Poker you can also play Spins. They are 3-handed short-stacked turbo sit and gos. The prize pool of each Spins tournament is randomly selected with a lottery before the game starts. The buy-ins range from as low as 25 cents to 250 dollars.

The specialty is a 5$ buy-in Spins, in which you can win up to 1 million dollars with only a 5$ buy-in! I like to play the Spins, because they are very soft and quick to play, if you don´t have a lot of time. On the Powerfest Spins I have won tournament tickets for bigger buy-in tournaments than I normally play.

The Tournament Selection Is One Of The Best Online

Party Poker is great for tournament players of all levels. It is also great for beginners, because on Party Poker they have lots of micro tournaments and they are quite soft. I think the tournaments on Party Poker have really nice prize pools compared with the buy-in, so you can win big with a small investment. On Party Poker there are always some tournaments running I want to play, so I play there quite often. They have certainly thought of players on different time zones.

I like that most of the tournaments start deep-stacked. The tournament structure on Party Poker has changed over the years. At some point the tournaments had such a blind level structure, that the tournaments lasted for too long. That is not an issue anymore, so now the tournaments don´t last for extraordinarily long, especially not the turbo tournaments.

Party Poker has lots of knock-out tournaments, and it is probably one of the best poker sites for playing KO tournaments. Luckily there are lots of regular tournaments as well, so the KO tournaments are not the only option, though. Live tournament satellites also run regularly. Actually I played a Party Poker´s live tournament in Nottingham, UK, once. I satellited online and I actually cashed on the live tournament.

Online poker tournament festivals also run on Party Poker from time to time, and they bring even more variety and excitement to the already wide tournament selection.

I played on the Powerfest tournament series on Party Poker in Spring 2019. I got a very nice cash finishing 6th in a $33 buy-in Powerfest tournament.

The Loyalty Program Is Simple

Party Poker has a cashback or rakeback program, so you can get some rake of your poker games back. The new cashback is more simple than the old one, although now you have to play a certain amount each week to get any cashback. You get cashback if you earn at least 25 points each week. For 25 points you get 5$ and the more points you earn, the more cashback you get. The cashback is paid in cash to your poker balance.

The points expire after one week, so there is a new period for counting points each week. You can see how many points you have earned during the current week on the upper part of the poker lobby.

My Rating For Party Poker

Party Poker, one of the biggest online poker rooms today, has experienced many changes over the years. Technical performance has improved, and the poker lobby is now easier to navigate, making it more neuroatypical-friendly.

The poker game selection is good, and Party Poker has a variety of tournaments, making it a great online poker room for tournament players of all levels.

The cashback program on Party Poker is simple; you get cashback each week, if you earn enough cashback points during the week. The more poker games you play, the more cashback you get.

Here we go, it is time to rate Party Poker! I´m rating it with 1-10 hearts for it´s different aspects.

  • I am new to PartyPoker and your article have given me a good insights into the world of Poker. A very well written review that is balance and objective.

  • Thanks for the interesting article. I’ve played a lot of poker before, and studied the team in depth, but never played at PartyPoker – so it was interesting to learn a little more about that site as well.

One thing I wonder: How are PartyPokers rules for 3rd party software to gather information, such as HoldemManager and PokerTracker? Now it’s been a while since I played online poker, but I remember PokerStars tightening up the rules more and more at the end.

    • Hi, Partypoker allows using software. I also use Poker Tracker 4, and it works on Partypoker too. Also Pokerstars still allows using software, but they only allow the newest update of Poker Tracker. So if you have an older version, you need to download the newest one. Thank you for your comment, and that was a good question by the way. I think Poker Tracker is very useful, so I prefer poker rooms that allow it.

      • Thanks for reply. It was good to hear, because I was almost tempted to start playing again by reading here on the website. Of course, it is possible to play without too, especially against beginners – although over time it can make a significant difference if you have a log of the game patterns to your opponents.

        • Yeah, some online poker rooms do n´t allow using software, and it is kind of equal, because no one else is getting data on you either. But playing on those poker rooms does require more concentration, because you have to pay more attention to what the other players are doing.

On poker rooms that do allow using software, the opponents get an advantage if you are not using a software and they are. So I would say it is very recommended to use tracking software on the poker rooms that allow it, because most of the other players are also using one and getting data on you.

  • I used both Party Poker and Poker Stars back when I played. I was impressed with both and each had decent tournament selections. When I get time to play again I’ll probably go with Party Poker, especially considering its background is much more friendly on the eyes than the darker-themed poker sites, which is about 90% of them.

I was always an avid hold ’em player but I also got into a little Omaha, Pineapple, and Crazy Pineapple.

    • Hi Todd,

Yeah, I just don´t get it why 90% of poker sites have dark themes. Pokerstars has also lots of tournaments running around the clock, but they are not quite as soft as on some other sites. The number of players is also huge, making the tournament fields very big and increasing variance, so I don´t play on Pokerstars that much. I play more on Partypoker, ipoker and 888poker.

I´ve never played Crazy Pineapple, that´s exciting! I only once tried Pineapple in a home game.

  • Hi! I stumbled upon this because I am a big fan of table games, but recently moved to an area where there are no casinos with table games (sniff, sniff). After reading your review, I will check out PartyPoker to see if it can supplement my love of table games. Thanks for the thorough review!

    • Just casinos with slots where you live? I have the same situation, there´s no live poker close to where I live, so I mostly play online poker. Thank you for visiting my site and leaving a comment, Kate!

  • Great and very informative review about PartyPoker Kristi. I really liked that you described and even posted picture of how design looks like. You were really honest and shared what issues you have experienced with this site as well. I’m very pleased to know that website has improved a lot over the years. And most important as a beginner, that PartyPoker is beginners friendly website with micro tournaments which is great. Thank you for sharing this review. Looking forward to read more poker tips from you.

    • Hi Marius,

Thank you for your feedback. I´m happy about comments, especially because this was my first poker room review, and actually first review ever on this website.
